Our Evolution
As we launch the next iteration of Gather, we commit to honoring our core values and pushing ourselves to accomplish even bigger goals in new ways.
In March of 2020 we, along with our friends, family, co-workers, and greater community, found ourselves facing unprecedented challenges brought on by the global pandemic and were forced to close our doors. In the midst of great uncertainty, and mourning the absence of our business and community, we found ourselves reflecting on what brought us to open Gather over a decade ago. Our intention in opening a restaurant was to support regenerative farmers and food producers, offer clean food and drink as well as inspiring, nourishing, and educational experiences for our guests. It was our mission to give back to the community and to create a thriving operation to sustain a familial, healthy team environment.
Our Core Values are as follows:
Love of people & planet
Regenerative sourcing
Equitable & uplifting team experience
Diversity in offerings, perspectives, and people
Creativity, fun, and celebration
Community belonging
The global pandemic, anti-racist movements, and yet another intense fire season reinforced our need to fully regenerate Gather and analyze every aspect of its operations in order to evolve, adapt, and best meet this moment and the future. We’ve had countless conversations with creative leaders and talented operators to collect ideas and explore collaborations.
The fruit of our re-imaginings brought us to the fresh concept we have today: Gather Kitchen, Bar & Market.
As we step into our second decade, we are driven to make Gather a beacon of hope and an essential resource for the community. We have commitments to design new operating principles:
Work as a team to identify important social and environmental issues we want to tackle
Evolve the governance and leadership of Gather to be more inclusive
Incorporate education and training into the fabric of our team experience and community interaction
Engage the community in direction setting on how we can best serve their needs
Identify the best food and service offerings to better achieve our mission and build a community membership model
Be more accessible and serve a wider community
Design how our offerings can be best suited to catering, food pickup, and delivery
Create more equitability with our team compensation
Make the economic model of the place more functional and thriving
Craft the best ways to simplify while deepening our core principles
Develop strategic partnerships with our neighbors at Cal, Oxford Plaza, and the changemakers in the David Brower Center.
We are here to thoughtfully serve you, our community, and the planet.
